BUSTED! A Phineas and Ferb Birthday Party

Sing with me:

There’s 104 days of summer vacation
and school comes along just to end it.
So the annual problem for our generation
is finding a good way to spend it…”

It’s entirely possible I loved this theme just as much as my 7yo. It might also be true that I’ve set the DVR to record Phineas and Ferb without the kids around. {ahem}

Moving on.

Luke’s birthday was back in September and because I’m the on-time police, we celebrated in November. The weather was rocky all week with lots of rain, but the clouds parted just a tiny bit and we ended up with the right amount of sun/clouds, sans rain, for the party. Let’s get to the details because you know how much I love those.

Activities
I’m a big fan of fun, doable and creative games and activities. When the kids first arrived we had a little word search and coloring. I’ve found that an open-ended activity like that is great, for the kids who arrive first, and doesn’t make those who came later, feel left out. Anytime there’s a lull in activities, you can always send them back to this one.

Also, because it was an indoor party, I had all the boys remove their shoes and just stand around the tables to color. They felt at home and no one fought over which chair to sit in – win/win.

Then, it was time for Perry in Disguise. I painted those toilet paper rolls prior to the party. Had the weather been better, we would’ve done this outside, but Plan B. We already had the eye shapes and bills cut out because they were so small. The boys added eyes and glued it all on. It was just long enough to keep their attention.

We moved to bookmarks next. My sweet friend and sorority sister made these cutouts for me and we used them to make bookmarks and the ones left over I used as decorations. The boys painted the sticks, my girls helped them glue on the heads and I hot glued them together. Total hit of the party.

We ended with Pin the Tail on Perry. You know how much I love that one. Always a party pleaser. Also, it totally pays to have a talented 12yo artist in the house. John Paul whipped this out for me in less than 15 minutes!

Food
You know the way to my heart Рgood food! Swamp Dogs (hot dogs), platypus tails (cheese puffs), platypus food (muddy buddies), P&F lemonade, Ferbtastic cookies and some Perry cupcakes were just what Dr. Doofenschmirtz ordered.

Can we have a moment of silence for those cookies?

I couldn’t find anything resembling what I wanted on Pinterest {insert gasp here} so I just sketched these out and my friend Olga made them even cuter in real life. It was super hard to eat them, but we somehow managed.

The cupcakes were something I spotted on Pinterest. I personalized them a bit and made them my own. I made myself feel healthier by using organic icing. Yes, that’s a thing. I just baked the cupcakes using an aqua-colored filling, then dyed the icing and piped it on using a ziplock bag with a hole cut on the tip. The bill is a Nilla Wafer, cut in half and the tail is a Nutter Butter, cut in half. I used candied eyes and a black icing gel pen for the hair on top. Pretty easy and definitely a winner.

Party Favors
Had it been summer, I totally would’ve added some sidewalk chalk to the mix. Instead, the boys got to take home their favorite P&F Pez dispenser. I might’ve swiped one, too.

Party Details
I really enjoyed playing with the backdrop for this party, using balloons in yellow, orange and aqua. Thank goodness for Scott’s air compressor! The balloons were inspired by Candace’s never-ending quest to bust her brothers and their shenanigans. Originally, I thought we might hide a clue in them and then have the boys pop all the balloons. Buuuuut, then I came to my senses and decided giving seven 7-year-old boys straight pins would not be one of my finer moments as a party thrower.

While store-bought pre-designed character things are super easy, I’ve just always veered off the path a little bit and taken a more figurative approach to party decorations. I pulled in the colors, did a few play on words and grabbed a few simple elements to make this party lots of fun for the resident 7yo who is a Phineas and Ferb superfan.

Luke, I still can’t believe you’re seven. I had a blast putting this together for you, buddy. Happy birthday!
