7 Quick Takes: The best quote {EVER} and a confession

7 Quick Takes: The best quote {EVER} and a confession

- 1 - I usually share a bunch of quotes with you, but this gem from Luke deserves its own take. A neighbor and I share carpool duties to preschool. Earlier this week, we decided to walk to her house for dropoff instead of having her drive over. Note to self: don't forget to factor in chatty time, rock collecting time and trash truck viewing time while walking with a five-year-old. Anywhere. So, we're walking along the sidewalk and Luke spots one of those painted house numbers on the sidewalk in burnt orange. Aaaand, we'll take it from there: Luke: Seriously? Who let Longhorns in here? This can't be happening. Me: {dying laughing} Pretty sure it took a good two minutes for me to … [Read more...]

Hey Baby! {9 months went fast}

Hey Baby! {9 months went fast}

We hit a big milestone over the weekend. The sweet bebe of the house is officially 3/4 of the way through her first year. And I just don't even know how that happened. Here's the quick stats: Weight: 17ish lbs. (doc visit next week) Clothes size: 6-9 months and some 9-12 months Eyes: still blue Sleeping: um, better? Teeth: 4 Eating: nursing 5x a day, eating cereal/baby food 3x day Now, for the chatty and cuteness. You'd think with six kids I'd have one with brown eyes since I'm the original brown-eyed girl. Nada. Zip. Not one. The girls all have blue and the boys fluctuate between blue and green, nary a hint of brown anywhere. That's like tossing a quarter and having it … [Read more...]

7 Quick Takes: The word I must say, the boots I must have & the baby I adore

7 Quick Takes: The word I must say, the boots I must have & the baby I adore

- 1 - This week's quotes of the week (QOTW) are, um, slim pickings. "Are you going to take her a bath?" Anna-Laura asks Scott this question EVERY night and his reply is always the same. "You mean GIVE her a bath?" Someday we'll figure out the difference between those two words! "Rainbow chicken!" Luke, he passes this metal chicken every day on the way to preschool and never misses screaming that out. Kids. I love 'em. "Oh, her name must be 'Oops.'" Mr. Super InappropriateĀ at Starbucks. And, yeah, you're gonna want to read the rest of that story. - 2 - Let's just call her the Maybelline baby, shall we? Those lashes, y'all. Sweet baby Gianna turned five months last week … [Read more...]

Fired…for good

Our specialist count just dropped by one this morning.  Hoo. Rah.Dr. Meyer.  Surgeon extraodinaire.  Amazing man.  Pediatric gentleness to the core.  Peds doctors are a unique bunch.  We learned - many, many months after he operated on Luke the first time - that you have to be a rockstar in medical school to become a peds surgeon.Let me introduce you to said Rockstar and his able sidekick.  The first photo was taken when Luke was just three months old.  What a peanut.  The second was taken this morning, at age 19 months.  Still a peanut, but a walking, STANDING one.Dadgumit if I don't tear up everytime I see Dr. Meyer.  I guess … [Read more...]

Luke Update 4.11.11

April 11, 2011 By Kathryn 1 Comment

Mostly, Luke is rocking it.  It's just been a really rough couple of weeks around here since we met our new reality.  He's not very nice.After a visit to Luke's pediatric orthopedist, we learned that Luke will soon be sporting SMOs.  We head back to the orthotist, Mr. Bud, on Friday for his fitting and then Good Friday we put them on for good.  What's an SMO, you ask?  And, why does Luke need them?To be all technical, the design of an SMO (supramalleolar orthosis) mimics the effect of a high-top shoe but provides more intimate control of the ankle-foot complex because of its custom-molded fabrication.  An SMO, in Luke's case, is also helping to control the … [Read more...]
