With 42 (and counting) birthday celebrations under my mom belt, I’ve made the mistakes so you don’t have to. I’m a bit of a party addict, but only in the best of ways. My mom is an event planner and has been planning shindigs since I was a tot. Fortunately, she gave me the gene and the party bug. I hope these celebrations inspire you to find happiness in the details at your next event. They really do make a difference. Below, you’ll find girl- and boy-themed party links, along with our family’s special celebration for reaching the 10th birthday milestone.
We’ve celebrated every kind of party: backyard, someone else’s pad, low-key, high-key and we’ve only clocked one broken arm in the process. Every gathering was planned with love and that’s really what matters, isn’t it? Below you’ll find links to many of my favorite parties where I share the details, the love and the fun we had.
It’s always fabulous when people you admire feature an event that celebrates your child. The Party Like a Rockstar and Rainbow parties are on Amy Atlas’ blog. I had the pleasure of meeting Amy at her book signing – wow! Kim, from The TomKat Studio, featured the Rainbow party, too. Her shop is full of supplies! The Little Man mustache party was featured on Spaceships and Laserbeams. If you’re a mom to boys, total winner of a site.
Because we have a large family, we plan something very special for our children’s 10th birthdays. We’ve opted to make hitting the “10” milestone extra special by treating the birthday child on a trip to a destination of their choosing. So far, we’ve trekked to Washington, D.C. and the Big Apple.
Girls really are full of love, creativity and sass. Well, at least mine are. You won’t find any Barbies here, but you will find some sweet candy, mermaids, Paris and a crafty owl or two. Most of the time, the inspiration for the girls’ parties has come from something simple and then we’ve conspired together to make it uniquely them. The details are always the best part!
Boy-themed parties can be a real blast. From superheroes to rockstars to camping, I’ve let my imagination and the interests of each of my three sons dictate these celebrations. My best advice for boy parties? Wear them out before you sugar them up. You’ll thank me later.
