We had some great quotes of the week (QOTW), most of which are courtesy of Luke.
“Come wake me up! I didn’t have any dreams today.”
Oh Luke, my heart.
Me: “Luke, is Clare done in the shower yet?”
Luke: “Nope, but she’ll be ready in a flash.”
“I had a fantastic nap.”
Luke, I so envy you.
Me: “Luke, get ready because Mrs. Veronica is almost here to pick you up for school.”
Luke: “Her name isn’t Mrs. Vewonica. It’s John’s Mom.”

Did I ever tell you about that time nine teenage boys showed up and I only had a few hours notice? I may have mentioned last Friday that my oldest had a party with his friends and forgot to tell his dear ‘ol momma. It was one of those, “Hey Mom, everybody will be over at our house at 6:45” as we were driving home from school. There were a few tense moments, but Will learned some great lessons about being a gracious host, his wallet is a little lighter since he had to fork over the cash for the food and we all now have a story to laugh about – for years. Oh, and did I mention that Luke overflowed the upstairs toilet and we had **** leaking through the ceiling into the kitchen? Gianna was screaming, Anna-Laura was throwing a fit and Clare was MIA. Oh y’all, it was fun times. F-U-N. This was all after a morning spent cleaning up bacon grease. Poor Will was trying to be helpful and tripped as he was walking in the kitchen with a hot plate of bacon. The most important part of that story is that no bacon was harmed. Or a kid. Just my tile.

The preemie of the family isn’t really looking much like a preemie these days. Yep, Luke started PreK this week. How did that even happen? He will be five in a couple of weeks and I still can’t even believe THAT. I’m thrilled that his PreK teacher was also Will’s first grade teacher. She was the bomb back then and is even more so now. I adore her. You’re going to get way more on this milestone next week, but for now, just enjoy those eyelashes.

Babies do a number on your belly. A few weeks ago I mentioned my plan to help correct my diastasis recti, aka, the huge gap now between my stomach muscles. Hey, the kids were worth it, most days. After chatting with a friend who also happens to be a personal trainer (hey Jen!) and a plastic surgeon (I was there for something non-cosmetic) we have a plan. And the plan is Pilates. I found a pretty good DVD for new moms. I’m not a new mom, but I’m giving her a pass on that one. “Pilates for Moms of 6” isn’t a thing yet. In addition to Pilates, I started walking again. Running just isn’t in the cards until I build my core back to baseline. After Pilates, I’ll likely do some modified Jillian Michaels and get back to running. Then again, I may quit Jillian forever and jump on the Pilates train. So far, I really like it. The stretching is worth it alone. Surgery for diastasis recti correction could be an option because of the lower back pain I’m having, but I’m not itching to under any knives ever again. So, St. Pilates. Let’s do this.

I would totally vote for “this guy.” Both my boys are running for student council representative. It’s likely we’ll know the verdict by the time you read this. I am nervous as a cat, mostly because I know how hard it is to put yourself out there. This momma bear is very proud of them, their efforts and their confident attitudes. I did have to laugh at our strategy session last weekend. Scott started sharing some good tips with them and they were all, “Dad, you don’t know how to run a campaign.” I ducked for cover. Evidently the former A&M yellboy came to play. Needless to say, the boys know all about campaigning now. They may even have a campaign manager in their dad!

It’s birthday time, y’all! Luke’s big day is in two weeks and if you’ve been following me on the ‘gram, you know the theme. Oh how I love a good party. This one is going to be an absolute blast. The pinterest board has been started and I’ll go into “operation birthday mode” this weekend. My poor family. As always, the details will be here in a few weeks.

I’m feeling really badly about my post on Facebook earlier this week. I’ve been absent from the blog for a week which isn’t usually my M.O. All is okay – or, it will be. I think I just needed to step away from the blog before I rambled on about something that I hadn’t fully processed. Don’t worry, no new medical diagnoses or anything horrible like that. Sometimes life just sucker punches you and it takes a bit to come back around. I am so very grateful, though, for God’s impeccable timing. Five years ago, when Luke was born, my prayer life began to take on a new form. A beautiful new life, even amidst really crappy circumstances. It’s been such a long time since I’ve had those honest, deep conversations with Him and they’ve been re-emerging these past few weeks. What a gift. Sometimes my prayers begin with “Dammit God” (true story) and He often responds, “Just coast on me.”
With that, I’ll call it a weekend. We have loads of flag football, soccer and the Aggies to watch. By the way, THE AGGIES. Here’s hoping we kick some major tail this season. Have a lovely weekend and we’ll chat on Monday about a HDYDI from the reader combox and the vlog is coming your way, too! Thanks, Jen, for hosting.
