This week’s QOTW:
“But Uncle Cory’s house is FREE!”
John Paul wondering why Scott was staying at a hotel for his conference when Uncle Cory lived right up the road. You are your uncle’s nephew, JP.
“When you’re a parent you can talk a lot, too.”
Anna-Laura, on why we’re always staying late at an event.
“When you encounter beauty, you encounter God.”
Dominican Sisters of Mary on a recent FOX & friends interview. I love that so much you might even see it on pinterest after I make it all fancy!
“I bet they’re having a party at the convent.”
Will, when he realized that it was the feast day for St. Padre Pio. I’m sure they did, sweetheart.
“I’m not cute, mom, I cool.”
This is from my friend, Susan. September 27, as my hardest day every year, it’s my motto.

Who’s up for some Rudy’s BBQ? This week, a local Christian radio station asked for listeners to call in for their Family Name game promo. The name happened to be Jack and I called and shared about my grandfather and won a gift certificate for some fine Texas BBQ. Of course, that phone call led to this post and, more importantly, the sweetest ten minutes of my week. Love you, Papa!

Scott was gone most of this week and part of last and I wasn’t sure if I was going to survive. I would make a lousy military wife. But, I managed to put on my big girl undies and get it done. Sometimes when your spouse is away you figure out what you’re made of, where your weaknesses lie and how to be a better person. I even managed a trip to the tire store and didn’t get upsold. That’s winning, right?

I”m beginning to think that my initial rationalization that lacrosse is safer than tackle football might be slightly off after seeing this photo. Um, shoulder pads AND big sticks? We’ll see how the season goes. Hopefully ER free.

I can’t decide. The master photographer of the house, Will, took these two photos of me this week. He says it’s time to update the avatar on Twitter. Which one is your favorite?

The last several weeks I’ve been blessed with time during the week to eat lunch with some dear friends, some I haven’t seen in many months. Aside from the fact that Jason’s Deli now thinks that I’m a regular customer, I’ve been reminded that God has placed some pretty spectacular people in my life. During those precious hours, I’ve heard some beautiful stories, cried some tears, laughed a lot and been reminded that life is precious. So precious, y’all. I may not have finished all my client work as quickly as I wanted, but I spent time with people and people are our lifelines, aren’t they? Not the computer. And, Jason’s tomato basil soup is the bomb.

Better get busy, Christmas is only three months away. I know how the stores work, we’ll be seeing Christmas stuff out on the shelves soon. I am a planner, though, and Christmas is my most favorite holiday. In year’s past I’ve designed Christmas cards for friends, family and even strangers (who sometimes feel like family!) but this year, I’m taking a step back. I’ve added a few clients to my fall docket and supermom is finally learning to say no. If you’re looking for some great options, Shutterfly and Tiny Prints both have beautiful artwork. I’ve already got our pile ready for a whole new stack of people to pray for this year!
Thanks, Jen, for being a great hostess!
