7 Quick Takes (Vol. 9): November 30, 2012

First up, let’s talk a good breakfast, awesome women and a Texas twang. On Monday, yours truly will be the guest speaker for Catholic Charities of Central Texas’ Women of the Well series. I would *really* love to see some familiar faces in that room. It’s Monday, December 3, from 8:30-10am, at the Pastoral Center. No, you don’t have to be Catholic to attend. No, the dress isn’t super fancy. Yes, I will make you laugh. Why aren’t you RSVPing? Get it done. Just click on that link above.

Okay, now let’s get really serious. College football. At this point I could probably fill my entire blog post up with super-fantastic-amazing videos of what a rockstar Johnny Manziel is, but I won’t do that to you. Between crazy amounts of client work, Christmas shopping (online, mind you) and shuttling kids 9,000 places, there’s barely been enough time to squeeze in reading all these articles. Somehow, I’ve managed. I know, it’s a cross I carry. If you’re asking me, “Kathryn, who is Johnny Manziel?” you best be watching this video. Good gracious, people, HEISMANZIEL! Aggie speak for “that boy deserves the Heisman.” More coming on that fun front next week.

What’s that? Do you hear the angels singing? All the stars in the cosmic universe have aligned and I am going on RETREAT this weekend. With like, cool girlfriends and awesome Dominicans and stuff. There will be Mass, Adoration, confession, guest speakers and quiet time. I even get my own top bunk on a bunk bed. Squee! This is the way every Advent should begin. My heart SO needs this time away. Sr. Maria Gemma, if you’re reading this, I sure wish you could be there.

Will was on the front page of the SEC Digital Network blog for their “SEC ‘On Location'” series this week. Yeah, I gave birth to a celebrity. It’s fun when it works out that way, isn’t it?

It was equally fun to get a shout out from Mrs. Jennifer Fulwiler herself over on National Catholic Register this week about a piece I wrote on dressing up for Mass. It’s been great fun being a part of the “What I Wore Sunday” linkup. The inspiration I’ve gained and prayerful approach that’s been renewed as a result has just been fantastic. Dress your best, regardless of your means. God deserves it. And that’s all I’m gonna say ’bout that.

Cyber Monday.¬†In a matter of about six hours I was able to knock out every last piece of shopping for Christmas, as well as buy early presents for birthdays, First Communion and Confirmation. It felt great to get it done, but even better to know that I stuck to my list. We are shopping purposefully around here and that’s always a blessing.

Speaking of purpose, I’m giddy that Advent starts this weekend. With so much of the bustle behind me and with a ready “no” I’m saying to many other obligations, I’m finding my heart already at peace and ready to enjoy what God has in store this December. As Fr. Steven Bell said on “The Busted Halo Show” this week, “Experience the seasons as they come.” A to the MEN. We have some wonderful things in store for our family this season and I’m really looking forward to sharing them here on the blog, but, more importantly, being present for my family this Advent.

If you’d like to join the party, visit Jen over at Conversion Diary.

Whew! You wore me out again… in a good way!!! I’m so in awe of how you are so on top of everything.

Blessings on your retreat. I did the silent retreat at Our Lady of Fatima for several years, and it’s a wonderful way to “do” Advent.

    You rock, Girlfriend!

What a great list. I’ll have you know that I know nothing about football, but my son voted for your guy last week to get that award. When he told me I thought of you and knew it would make you happy :) Have a great weekend.

Great list! I love the outfit and your front door! I’ve been trying to participate in the what I wore Sunday–but I haven’t been very good at taking pics-hoping to make this a better week,

    Hope your talk goes well!

Ahh! Did you go to the womens retreat in Michigan? If you did, I’m just going to say that I am a bit jealous b/c the slots were full by the time I learned about it! LOL. I know it was/is fruitful!
