I’m not quite sure I ever really knew, or paid attention during history class, about the importance of D Day and just how many lives were affected. A little over three years ago, Scott and I had the privilege of traveling to France. During the trip, we made sure to stop and spend some time at Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc.
This is one of my very favorite photos from that day. Scott snapped it as I was sitting on a bench near the cemetery, taking it all in, one tombstone at a time.

To all the men who sacrificed their lives so many years ago today, you are remembered, honored and loved. And, to one of the greatest men I know, my grandfather and WWII tail gunner Jack Dodson: I love you Papa. He’s the handsome chap, back row, second from the right. Of all the men in this picture, only two are still living and one of them I call Papa 🙂
